MOST EXPENSIVE FLOPS OF BARCELONA

In financial terms, David Villa can be considered Barça's second worst signing in recent history. Having joined from Valencia for €40 million three years ago, now he has been packed off to Atlético for just €5.1 million, representing a loss of €34.9 million.
The only player Barça has taken a bigger hit on was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was recruited in 2009 in a deal worth a staggering €87 million (including sending Eto'o to Inter in part exchange), only to fall out with Guardiola and be offloaded to Milan for a measly €24 million (a €63 million write-off) the following summer.
Two other expensive flops were the Belarusian international Alexander Hleb, who failed to make an impression after a €15 million move from Arsenal and was farmed out on loan before eventually leaving on a free, just like Brazilian centre-back Henrique, who cost a whopping €16.5 million but never made a first-team appearance.
Another big-money defensive experiment gone wrong was Ukraine centre-half Dmytro Chygrynskiy, who was signed for €25 million from Shakhtar Donetsk. After a horror first season in Catalonia, he rejoined his old club for €15 million. Uruguay's Martín Cáceres, brought in for €16.5 million and subsequently flogged for just €3.5 million, has a similar story to tell.
Henrique wasn't the only Brazilian starlet whose career went into freefall after moving to the Catalan capital: his countryman Keirrison also failed to pull on the Barça shirt after a €14 million move in 2009. Rounding off the roll call of shame is Argentinian forward Maxi López, who cost €6 million but was unable to hold down a regular place in the side and eventually left for €2 million.

Modeste joins Hoffenheim

Modeste joins Hoffenheim

The 25-year-old has penned a three-year contract with the Bundesliga side, joining for an undisclosed fee after announcing his "pride and joy" at moving to Germany via his Twitter account.

The former France Under-21 forward recommended himself for a move with 15 goals in 36 appearances last campaign, helping the Corsican club finish a respectable 12th in Ligue 1.

He previously made five appearances for Blackburn while on loan from Bordeaux, where after scoring 10 goals in his debut season, he was unable to hold down a regular starting berth.

"Given the in-depth talks held with (coach) Markus Gisdol and (sporting director) Alexander Rosen, I am sure that Hoffenheim are the right club for me," said Modeste.

"I am happy to be here and will do all I can to be successful with the team."

Rosen described the player as "quick, dangerous in the air and in front of goal" while Gisdol is delighted a deal has been struck.

"We had been monitoring Anthony for a long time now and so we are pleased to have now signed him," he said.

Robinho on the verge of Santos Move

Robinho to Join Santos

Robinho could soon complete a move from AC Milan to Santos, as the Brazilians' board reportedly meet to formalize an offer.

The 29-year-old has been the subject of speculation and talks this summer over a second return to the Sao Paulo outfit.

Reports in Brazil overnight indicate, though, that the saga could be coming to an end, with Globoesporte running the line that a €6m offer in the form of a single cash payment this transfer window will be accepted by
the Rossoneri.

Sky Sport Italia, who understand that this figure could be as low as and initial €5.5m plus add-ons, say that Adriano Galliani is now just awaiting an official OK from
Milan to then fly out to Brazil to formalise terms.

The final obstacle in negotiations is then seen as Robinho’s wage determination.

The player was requested specifically by new boss Rafa Benitez.
