Sami Hyypia appointed as Head Coach at Leverkusen

Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has been handed the head coach role at Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Hyypia has been a coach at the club last season alongside Sascha Lewandowski, but the Finn has been promoted to head coach while Lewandowski has been given the task of managing the youth team.

On the appointment, Leverkusen's sporting director said: "Sascha helped lift the team, along with Sami Hyypia, up to an even higher level and we have confidently asserted ourselves against strong competition,"

This position will be Hyypia's first real attempt at management and fans of the age-old German club will be hoping for positive results next season.
