Liverpool Target City Bench warmer as Carragher Replacement

Kolo Toure targeted by Liverpool

The Reds boss Rogers is set to hand former Arsenal man Kolo Toure a Premier League lifeline.

The Manchester City defender can leave on a bosman transfer as his contract has expired at the end of this campaign.

And former Swansea manager Rodgers wants him to help plug the gap left in the heart of his backline by the retiring Jamie Carragher.

The 35 year-old Anfield legend played his final game on Sunday and Rodgers admitted he faces a massive task in filling his boots.

He is still in the market for a top-line defender and is keen to land 25 year-old Brazilian Douglas from FC Twente.

Swansea skipper Ashley Williams is also still on his wish list.

But Rodgers is after Ivory Coast international as well to give him more depth, with Uruguayan Sebastian Coates also likely to leave Anfield and doubts over Martin Skrtel.

Kolo has fallen way down the pecking order since joining the Light Blues in a £16million move from Arsenal. He has made 99 appearance for City since 2009.
